Ajman Statistics and Competitiveness Center launches the Initiative “Paperless Statistics” concurrently with the International Environment Day on June 5th. As the Center abandoned the use of paper completely since the application of telecommuting (remote working) in last March. In lieu, electronic systems and techniques have been used for all the internal and external transactions. It’s worth mentioning that this approach will be always adopted, even after the employees return to office. In that way, the Center is the first government agency in Ajman to launch this initiative at such comprehensive level. This initiative aims to encourage the adoption of this approach, spread the culture of go paperless and provide proper alternatives for the employees, as well as to make use of the modern electronic techniques provided by the Center to stop using paper completely, in order to achieve the full digital conversion of the Center in all internal and external transactions. These actions will reduce the adverse impact on the environment, decrease the amount of wastes and contribute to the preservation of trees used in paper manufacturing, for a better environment. Moreover, following the policy of rationalization and reduction of paper use by the institutions will remarkably decrease costs. As the costs of disposal of paper are much higher than that of purchasing it. In this context, the Statistics and Competitiveness Center revealed that it is about to launch the electronic statistical system, which will contribute to dispensing with paper use and facilitating the tasks of statistical data collection from the government agencies electronically. The system will aim to establish an integrated technological system that contributes to the creation of clean and healthy environment, which achieves the standards of statistical quality, fast accomplishment and fewer errors. All of this will lead, in turn, to fulfill the demands of the data users, as well as to facilitate the statistical work and to create data linkage between the Center and the collaborators. This also will save time and effort through providing direct communication channels for sharing statistical data. Data received from all parties are reviewed instantaneously in the real time, in order to ensure data quality and consistency. Then, reports are generated in the form of charts, tables and data description. In addition, data will be provided in the form of statistical data that are ready for publication. The system will provide the users with a series of statistical data, where all of their data needs will be fulfilled in accordance with the approved international standards.

The ISO 37120 standard for sustainable cities and quality of life indicators covers 19 key themes, encompassing most development sectors such as education, health, housing, economy, transportation, water, energy, entertainment, governance, and security. This standard has enabled the Emirate of Ajman to compare its indicators with other global cities. The ISO 37122 Smart Cities standard complements this framework by providing indicators to measure the development of smart services, the efficiency of digital technology use, the effectiveness of government communication with residents, and areas of urban and economic innovation, enhancing a city's readiness for comprehensive smart transformation. The ISO 37123 Resilient Cities standard measures a city's ability to prepare for and respond to crises, such as natural disasters and social, economic, and environmental pressures. This standard , also, helps to support decision-making, develop preventive policies, and enhance a city's ability to recover and achieve long-term sustainability. It is worthy to note that the World Council on City Data (WCCD) is an organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of urban, economic, and social statistics for cities around the world. It aims to enable cities to use these indicators in developing plans and measuring urban and development performance, thus contributing to enhancing the quality of life for residents. At the conclusion of the event, Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi honored the government agencies that contributed to this achievement, praising their dedication and team spirit.
