Ajman Statistics and Competitiveness Center conducted a study on “Telecommuting”. One of this study elements is to learn about the impact of telecommuting regarding the family and health aspects for the employees. Ajman Government developed policies and guidelines for telecommuting, in order to maintain the employees’ safety and wellbeing as a part of the protective and preventive actions taken for combating the novel Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic and the national sterilization program, while ensuring the continuity of the work performance and provision of all services required under these emergency circumstances, as well as making best use of the technological capabilities available in Ajman emirate. In this study, 783 employees from the government agencies in Ajman participated. The study was conducted electronically via the Center’s Smart Studies System in last May. Eighty three percent of the respondents informed that telecommuting caused no social issues, because telecommuting mechanisms enable them to stay with their families. While 78% of the total employees covered by the study stated that telecommuting did not constitute a burden on the family's resources, but rather the spouses’ staying together helps in promoting the family stability. Telecommuting provided more time to the family members to sit together and interact with all of the daily life activities closely. This matter reflected positively on the family relations and the stability thereof between husband and wife and among the family as a whole. There is no doubt that the change in the daily practices and life styles, as a result of the requirement of coexistence with the current circumstances, necessitates the presence of the father and mother to provide the necessary care, particularly overseeing the children who study via distance learning at home and creating the proper environment for them, and this is what telecommuting provided through the presence of the employed spouses near their children. It’s worth mentioning that the work multi-options provided to the employees by their employers support the balance between work and family life, and also maintain the progress in achieving the institutional objectives, in addition to measuring the effectiveness degree of telecommuting and its impact on health aspects and family relations. Moreover, this study, which was conducted in cooperation and coordination with the Department of Human Resources of Ajman Government, covered the various dimensions of telecommuting and the employees’ views.
