“Ajman Statistics” organizes a symposium on “The Role of Statistics in Achieving Sustainable Development”

Ajman Statistics Center (ASC) organized a virtual symposium via the Zoom application titled “The Role of Statistics in Achieving Sustainable Development,” coinciding with the World Statistics Day, which falls on October 2nd every year , and also along with the Year of Sustainability announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, may Allah protect him, and comes as part of the UAE’s preparations to host the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
The symposium aims to build an intellectual base in the field of statistics and sustainability at the Emirate level, and to achieve cooperation to build a more advanced statistical system that serves sustainable development indicators and helps to support local and national strategies, besides being considered an opportunity to enhance and exchange expertise and experiences in order to develop national statistical systems.
Her Excellency Dr. Hajar Al Hubaishi, Executive Director of Ajman Statistics Center, expressed that today we celebrate the World Statistics Day announced by the United Nations General Assembly, in recognition of the role played by data science and statistics, which is based on the latest techniques and advanced technology, and become a major information support that contributes to the sustainability of operations, planning and decision-making, besides being an important information tool for the business community, and all groups and individuals interested in data in the Emirate of Ajman.
Al Hubaishi added that statistical data plays a major role in achieving sustainable development and supporting national strategies in this field towards building a more prosperous future, by providing accurate statistics that contribute to supporting the UAE vision , its objectives and the vision in the field of sustainability, which can serve its initiatives, efforts and inspired strategies. in this field, particularly the “UAE Net Zero 2050”.
An elite group of statisticians participated in the symposium, including Dr. Yasmine Judi, technical statistical advisor at the Ajman Statistics Center, experts from the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia - ESCWA, Dr. Salah Al-Muzahimi, Director of the Department of Studies and Development Indicators at the Statistical Center for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and Dr. Jamal Ballout, expert in developing professional standards and qualifications at the National Qualifications Centre, and Mrs. Maysoon Al Ali, Head of the Sectoral Statistics Department of Abu Dhabi Statistics Center.
The speakers discussed a number of important issues, including the role of the statistical data in drawing up strategic plans for sustainable development, and the foundations for building a sustainable statistical future, in addition to reviewing the best experiences and practices in employing statistical data in sustainability.
Subsequently , Dr. Yasmine Judi presented a paper titled “Record Data and its Role in Promoting Development Plans for the Well-Being of Society” (The Experience of the Emirate of Ajman). Wherein she reviewed the ASC’s efforts in developing and raising the efficiency of the record data in government departments in the Emirate of Ajman and applying the highest standards of statistical quality in the Self-enumeration of Ajman Census and the mechanism for its implementation, registration, and management, in addition to presenting the mechanism for linking the registry data to the Emirate. Dr.Yasmine also reviewed the statistical maturity index in the Emirate, its stages, outputs, and levels data to the Emirate. She also addressed the statistical maturity index in the Emirate, its stages, outputs, and levels.
On the other hand , Dr. Salah Al-Muzahimi presented a working paper titled “Sustainable Development Objectives Indicators Project”, wherein he explained project’s strategic objectives, in addition to the challenges that faced the project, and the most prominent recommendations with the proposed aspirations in this field . While Dr. Jamal Ballout also addressed the role of statistics in stimulating sustainable development, in a presentation titled “Harnessing the Power of Statistics to Stimulate Sustainable Development,”,and finally Ms. Maysoon Al Ali ended the symposium with her latest participation by talking about the role of the government agencies in the semi-decentralized statistical system, in addition to the most significant achievements of the system during presentation of her paper titled “The Semi-decentralized statistics System .
By the end of the symposium, Dr. Yasmine thanked the participants and contributors to organizing the symposium’s activities, and expressed her wishes for everyone’s progress and advancement , hoping that the symposium would have achieved its objectives in strengthening the bonds of cooperation and joining the efforts of all statistical centers to work on strengthening statistical systems and raising the level of efficiency of workers in this field in order to obtain comprehensive and accurate official statistics, and to exchange experiences among statistical centers, universities and academic institutions related to statistical sciences to advance statistical work, and to provide qualified personnel to work in this field.
It is noteworthy that Ajman Statistics Center periodically issues reports and studies in several areas related to sustainability, including the environment and energy report, which includes several areas, such as weather, renewable energy, and ambient air quality. The center also issues report on birds, which addressed the migratory birds, bird reserves in the emirate and in the UAE, and the total numbers of birds monitored in the Emirate, in addition to issuing a sustainability guide in this field.
Ajman Statistics Center Participates in the Data and AI Conference – Europe 2025 in London
An official delegation from the Ajman Statistics Center participated in the Data and AI Conference – Europe 2025, held in London from October 13 to 17, 2025. The event brought together a distinguished group of global leaders and experts in data and smart technologies from around the world. Recognized as one of Europe’s premier specialized events, the conference explored the latest advancements and emerging trends in data management, AI ethics, machine learning, and advanced analytics. Participants also reviewed global best practices in harnessing artificial intelligence to support decision-making and accelerate digital transformation across both public and private sectors. The participation of the Ajman Statistics Center came through an official delegation representing Dr. Hajar Al Habishi, Director General of the Center. This engagement reflects the Center’s commitment to representing the Emirate of Ajman at international specialized forums and to fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration with leading global institutions in the fields of data and statistical analysis. During the event, the delegation was introduced to cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions in big data analytics and intelligent system development. The team also held side meetings with representatives of several international organizations to discuss potential collaborations and exchange expertise in strengthening statistical infrastructure and promoting data-driven innovation. Dr. Hajar Al Habishi emphasized that the Center’s participation in this global event is part of its ongoing efforts to stay abreast of international developments in data and artificial intelligence. She noted that leveraging global best practices contributes to the advancement of Ajman’s statistical ecosystem and supports the Emirate’s digital transformation and innovation journey in line with the Ajman Government Vision 2030.

Humaid bin Rashid reviews results of Household Income & Expenditure Survey in Ajman
H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Executive Council, reviewed the results of the Household Income and Expenditure Survey in Ajman for 2024 and the first half of 2025, through a detailed presentation prepared by the Ajman Statistics Centre. H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi affirmed that the survey results are a pivotal tool for understanding the living, social, and economic reality, and represent an essential foundation for developing developmental plans that enhance quality of life and support the path of sustainable development in the emirate. The Ruler of Ajman praised the efforts of the Ajman Statistics Centre in preparing studies and surveys that provide comprehensive data reflecting various social and economic aspects of the emirate, in a way that contributes to the development of services, ensures that citizens’ needs are met, and raises their standard of living. The survey aims to provide accurate data on income and consumption patterns in the emirate, enabling policymakers to design balanced development policies and strengthen initiatives to improve the living standards and quality of life of families in Ajman in the coming years. H.H. the Ruler of Ajman also listened to a detailed explanation of the survey results presented by Dr. Hajar Al Habishi, Director- General of the Ajman Statistics Centre. The presentation included comprehensive analyses of quality of life, social and economic well-being in the emirate, and details of spending on education and health sectors, in addition to identifying families’ self-sufficiency thresholds, consumption patterns, and living habits in Ajman. The presentation further included in-depth results on the demographic characteristics of families in the emirate, living standards, income sources, daily living costs, as well as the classification of families by different categories. It also highlighted the needs of some special cases among Emirati families, and presented practical proposals to strengthen a culture of saving and promote financial investment. The survey concluded with a set of recommendations focusing on enhancing social support networks, primarily by empowering low-income families and ensuring they receive their basic needs. The recommendations also emphasized encouraging Emirati families to launch private economic projects by providing incentives and financing programs that support their active participation in the labor market. On a related note, H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid also reviewed the Marriage and Divorce Report for 2024 and the first half of 2025, which showed a significant increase in the number of marriage contracts alongside a decline in divorce rates — a positive indicator of the stability of family and community fabric in the emirate.

Agreement of Cooperation between Ajman Statistics Center and Al Ittihad Charity Foundation to Enhance Data-Driven Social Impact
As part of strengthening collaboration between government entities and community institutions, the Ajman Statistics Center has signed a cooperation agreement with Al Ittihad Charity Foundation. This strategic step aims to support institutional integration, exchange expertise and knowledge, and leverage statistical data to serve charitable and community initiatives—thereby enhancing the effectiveness of development programs and ensuring a sustainable impact that benefits the local community. The signing ceremony took place at the Ajman Statistics Center headquarters, in the presence of officials from both sides. The agreement was signed by H.E. Dr. Hajar Saeed Al Habsi, Director General of Ajman Statistics Center, and H.E. Hareb Salem Al Aryani, Secretary General of Al Ittihad Charity Foundation. This partnership stems from the belief of both parties in the importance of integrating statistical work with community initiatives, and in the necessity of employing accurate data to support charitable efforts, improve the efficiency of social programs, and allocate resources optimally to achieve maximum positive impact on target groups. The agreement aims to foster cooperation in areas such as exchanging data related to community initiatives, conducting joint analytical studies and surveys, developing tools to measure the social impact of charitable projects, and organizing workshops and training programs to build the capacity of staff in both institutions. On this occasion, H.E. Dr. Hajar Al Habsi emphasized that the agreement reflects the Center’s vision of expanding the use of statistical data to support humanitarian and community-oriented initiatives. She noted that accurate data serves as a fundamental basis for designing more effective charitable programs and for channeling resources to the most vulnerable groups, thereby achieving higher levels of sustainable social impact. Dr. Al Habsi added that Ajman Statistics Center is keen to build impactful partnerships with community institutions in order to exchange knowledge and implement research and field projects that contribute to advancing social development goals and enhancing quality of life. For his part, H.E. Hareb Salem Al Aryani expressed his pride in this partnership, describing it as a qualitative addition to the charitable projects carried out by the Foundation. He stressed that relying on accurate and reliable data enhances the efficiency of programs and initiatives, and helps build a knowledge system capable of effectively directing efforts toward target groups. He pointed out that cooperation with a specialized entity such as Ajman Statistics Center is an opportunity to develop charitable work based on scientific foundations that keep pace with social changes and ensure sustainable humanitarian impact. The agreement establishes a long-term cooperation framework between the two parties in the fields of data production and analysis, support for social research, organization of awareness and training activities, and the preparation of an annual executive program to ensure proper implementation and achievement of the desired results. This collaboration comes within the shared commitment of both sides to promote the concepts of integration and sustainability in institutional and community work, in alignment with Ajman Vision 2030, which seeks to build a prosperous society founded on knowledge, collaboration, and active community engagement.
